Almost all non-vaccine-related innovation in 2021 has been related to fast-food-chicken-sandwich. KFC started the year with a capable riff on the Internet Popeyes chicken sandwich. Boston Market’s own presentation was less than impressive. Wendy Jalapeno Popper chicken sandwich, a little non-sequitur in the crispy chicken arena, was the middle. But now, Taco Bell has come up with an ad that could turn some tired chicken heads: Taco Crispy Chicken Sandwich He’s coming to a Taco Bell next to you soon.

“It’s a disturbing, delicious new item, a sandwich or a taco, you ask?” reads a press release sent to Takeout. “Well, it’s a sandwich AND a taco. And it doesn’t have to be explained that it’s so delicious. ” Fair enough.

Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco has only 3-4 elements, so at least Taco Bell is trying to keep things simple with its new hybrid concept. Start with a piece of “crispy premium chicken made from all-white meat, marinated in jalapeño juice, then seasoned with bold Mexican spices and rolled in a layer of crispy tortilla.” A promising start. The chicken is then served in what Taco Bell describes only as “a puffed bread, shaped into an iconic taco shape.” Intriguing! The whole thing is topped with a “creamy signature chipotle sauce”. Customers can order both a regular version and a spicy version, from which comes with slices of pickled jalapeño. Do we dare say it? That sounds pretty good. Taco Bell found his own side door in Fast Food Chicken Sandwich Wars and, although not Mexican pizzaSandwich Taco could surprise us all.

Starting March 11, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich Taco will be available in only two test markets: Nashville, Tennessee and Charlotte, North Carolina. The national launch will take place sometime “later this year”. If any of our readers manage to get one in the testing phase, tell us everything! I long to know what “the iconic taco-shaped fluffy bread” tastes like.
