Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is number 1 for the second week in a row.
Nintendo Switch exclusivity fell in sales by 61% compared to the previous week, which is a solid result for a game from the second week on the charts. The Wii U remaster is comfortably the best-selling new game of the year (so far).
It withstands stiff competition from FIFA 21, which has enjoyed further sales growth due to recent price cuts. Game sales of the game increased by 140% last week, and this week increased by 59%.
There is also Mario Kart 8: Deluxe. There was a lack of normal Switch stock on the market last week, with only package options available, of which Mario Kart was an important tool. The game has increased by 19% in sales and is moving from number 5 to number 3.
This means that Animal Crossing: New Horizons falls to number 4, its lowest position so far this year, with a 4% drop in weekly sales.
Completing the Top Five is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which has actually risen one place despite sales dropping 9% week on week.
There is a real lack of games in the next few months, with a handful of Switch versions and not many others. Bravely Default 2 on the Switch is available next week, while Monster Hunter: Rise arrives in late March. The first really big games in the PS5 and Xbox series did not land until May, with Returnal, Resident Evil: Village and Deathloop the first notable games.
As a result, we can expect this physical retail chart to be strongly influenced by lower prices and the arrival of new console stocks for all three major platforms.
