We’re not even sure where to start. A series of relatively cryptic tweets related to Metal Gear have sparked speculation about the kind of announcement received. Everything is a little weird, but we’ll try to make sense of it.
A Twitter account called “Tom Olsen” was created in April 2021. According to the bio, Tom is a “maintenance technician at Big Shell” – the main setting of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Tom only follows the official accounts for Metal Gear, Konami, Hideo Kojima and the New York Mets baseball team. Moreover, all of Tom’s tweets have been related to Metal Gear Solid 2 so far, complete with screenshots from the game.
One of Tom’s latest tweets suggests that something will come soon:
Okay, so who is this “Tom Olsen”? Is it just a weird role-playing game account? Why should anyone care? Well, Tom was quoted on Twitter by the official Metal Gear account a few days ago. The account was played with Tom’s tweet and seemed to suggest that something was happening “next week”.
It’s just a little weird, isn’t it? Given the often mysterious nature of the Metal Gear series, it’s no wonder people are starting to pay attention to this. That being said, I saw a lot Rumors start with weird weirdos on social media and most of the time, they are not what you expect. At this point, these tweets could mean anything, so we advise you not to raise your hopes.
But the whispers of the Metal Gear Solid remakes have been touring for months, and this only adds fuel to the fire. We’ll just have to wait and see if anything happens next week, will we?
