It looks like Steven Matz has no harsh feelings that the New York Mets traded him to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.
“I will always be grateful to the Mets for the opportunity to play for my home team,” Matz said. wrote on Twitter in a farewell message on Thursday. “Thank you Mets fans for all your support during your time in NY. And thank you to all my teammates and coaches – I wish you all the best of luck! ”
Matz, 29, was sent to the Blue Jays for three minor league pitching prospects. Earlier this season, Matz was auctioned off for a $ 5.2 million contract, but became expendable with the Mets ‘recent pitching additions – which included another left-back, Padres’ Joey Lucchesi.
Matz also said that he is looking forward to joining Blue Jays and believes that I can be a competitor of AL East.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to join @BlueJays and one of the most interesting teams in the game!” Matz wrote on Twitter. “I’m pumped to do my part to help this team get back into the playoffs and you’ll get everything I have!”
The Mets, who want to complete their farming system, have acquired three perspectives in the deal – right-handers Sean Reid-Foley, Yennsy Diaz and Josh Winckowski. According to the MLB Pipeline, Diaz was the group’s best-ranked group, ranking 26th in Toronto’s agricultural system.
