Head coach Steve Wojciechowski is at Marquette after seven seasons, the school announced on Friday.
The Golden Eagles finished 13-14 overall and 8-11 in the Big East game this past season.
“After a thorough evaluation of our program over the past week, which included several conversations with Steve, we have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for a new leader in our program,” said Marquette Athletic Director Bill Scholl. “I am confident that our success story and our commitment to the development of young people who are leaders on and off the field will attract the highest caliber of coaching talent. I want to thank Steve for his dedication to student-athletes how to which represented our men’s basketball program and the university. We wish Steve, Lindsay, Jack and Charlie anything but the best in the future. “
Wojciechowski played two NCAA tournaments in the seven seasons with the Golden Eagles, losing in the first round each time. Last season, he made a third appearance at the NCAA tournament behind the stellar game of Markus Howard, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This season, Marquette had remarkable victories over Wisconsin and Creighton in December, but failed to build the rest of the way. A six-game losing streak in seven games in the middle of the Big East ended the Golden Eagles’ NCAA hopes, despite winning four out of five to end the season.
In seven seasons, Wojciechowski went 128-95 overall and 59-68 in the league game.
The school said on Friday it would immediately begin a national search for a replacement.
