Steam expands support for Xbox and PS5 controllers

If, like me, you prefer to play your games on the computer with a high controller in the home console, good news. Steam is testing extensive features for PS5 and Xbox controllers, including additional customization and button mapping. I’m still thinking about a fairly old Xbox One controller, but hey, until I upgrade, it sounds like all the new features might be ready and wait for me when I connect them.

Earlier this week, Steam highlighted some new features you can try if you change your Steam Client Beta affiliate. Xbox controllers get the most winnings this time with the ability to reconnect the share button on the Xbox Series X controller and tie those fancy paddles there, behind the Elite controller, in the controller configurations.

It also tests support for more than four Xbox controllers. I don’t know about you, but there are currently no more than four Xbox controllers or creature cables to use in my household. Maybe by the end of 2021, right?

PS5 controllers receive a small node from now on with the option to turn the LED light on or off the gamepad on or off only when multiple controllers are connected. Steam also improved support for the PS5 controller late last year, not long after the launch of the new system.

There’s more in the Steam update about Wooting Two keyboard support, HOTAS, and G15 devices.

If you want to connect your entire family of Xbox controllers and see what’s going on, you can opt for beta in the account section of the Steam settings menu.
