Star Trek Legends, recently releabut on Apple Arcade, plays a lot like Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, Disney’s Sorcerer’s Arena, DC Legends and countless others Cast mobile RPGs. But without energy meters or annoying microtransactions. As a result, feels like a game and not a treadmill designed to transport you to a store.

Star Trek Legends it involves a large distribution of characters, both good and bad, from various Star Trek shows. How they all sit and fight every? The Nexus, that great energy ribbon thing from Generations, has returned, and Starfleet has a new special ship designed to enter it. It’s a bit insignificant, by hand, to configure the narrative of the game, but it works.

And once you’re in the Nexus, interacting with other characters, the game takes full advantage of this configuration. If you want Star Trek, which you probably do if you read so far in this post, there are a lot of jokes and references that will make you say “Oh, yes … I know that”. None of the stories in legends they are masterpieces, but they tend to have some nicely written fragments of dialogue with characters who interact with each other in fun and authentic ways.

The game mode is quite large for this type of game. You have a small team of characters, each with their own abilities and skills. You take that team on missions, which are made up of battle segments, short scenes and even a few moments where you have to decide what to do next. The fight is over again, nothing incredibly fresh or new, but it works. Attack enemies, making back and forth rounds until a team remains standing. Fortunately, you can speed up the animations during the fight. It looks nice, but in the end I just want to kill the bad guys and move on.

Which really raises it Star Trek Legends, the reason I am writing this blog is that the whole game is free of MTX or paid coins. There is no way to spend money in this game. There are also no ads. This is standard for Apple Arcade releases, but it really makes this type of game much more fun to play. I’m still playing Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, but every month it seems like something new has been added, which is designed to make me eat on Mondays or put in a lot of money. And with the help of energy meters, it quickly becomes effective to play the game, unless you pay money. Or wait.

In the legendsyet you I can just … play the game. Unlocking the characters is fun, not an expensive chore. Completing missions is interesting, not a problem.

I can’t explain how weird it is, after years of playing this kind of mobile RPG, to be free to play it as much as I want. It’s cute. Plus the game is a wonderful celebration of Star Trek, both old and new. It’s a game built especially for me. It makes me happy.

Yes I know. It’s on Apple Arcade. And yes, I know that means you or some the people you know can’t play. What the fuck! I think Star Trek Legends it’s good enough that I’d love to see it warp on other platforms. But only if he keeps the rogue mobile RPG.
