Springfield’s City Utilities is working to restore energy to nearly 6,000 customers after the ice storm

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Springfield City Utilities crews are working until morning to restore power to thousands of its grid after a New Year’s ice storm.

As of 11 a.m., Joel Alexander of City Utilities reported 6,000 customers without electrical service. Alexander says changing rainfall and temperature conditions often hamper restoration efforts.

Alexander says that at the peak of the storm, more than 12,000 customers were without electricity.

“Overnight, line crews and trees began to respond to interruptions, as the weather allowed,” Alexander said in an update Friday morning. “Most of the outages were created by limbs and trees that come in contact with power lines. However, there is at least one utility structure that has been damaged. Additional line crews and trees are arriving to help CU crews. “

Additional line crews and trees have arrived to assist and will make repairs as soon as possible.
