Springer suffers a new rehabilitation injury

When George Springer finally appeared near his return from a tense left oblique, the Blue Jays center-back felt stiff in his right quad as he walked on bases on Tuesday.

This new injury removed him from training, and now the slugger has undergone an MRI. The Blue Jays are awaiting test results, said Charlie Montoyo, manager of the Blue Jays, before the Toronto game against the Rangers at the Globe Life Field.

“He had his batting practice and everything was going well,” Montoyo said. “When it came time to run the bases, he felt stiff in the quadriceps and stopped. The day passed and he said “OK, it’s not a cramp” and then we went to do the MRI “.

Confronting live pitching and full swing was a major step in Springer’s recovery, but this new injury complicates matters.

“It’s difficult. You have to be careful, just like in the case of the oblique,” Montoyo said. “If you aggravate it, it will take a long time. That’s the thing with those injuries. We have to be patient and careful. We know how much you want to play.”

The Blue Jays will continue to use Randal Grichuk – who was 16-8 years old with a home before Wednesday’s game – in midfield, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on the left and Teoscar Hernandez on the right.
