Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, who has the Green Bay Packers waiting for him in Saturday’s division, also has the Philadelphia Eagles waiting for him whenever this season ends, according to league sources.
The Eagles have already been given permission to interview Staley at the right time, which could be as early as Sunday if the Rams do not advance, according to sources. Staley will join the list of head coach candidates that the Eagles are already considering, as they have spent the week conducting interviews.
The Eagles are drawn to Staley and the reputation he built during the year as Sean McVay’s defensive coordinator in Los Angeles, as well as the skills he demonstrated in Denver under coach Broncos, Vic Fangio.
The Eagles aren’t the only team interested in Staley. Houston Texans have also been given permission to interview Staley and there is a connection there.
Staley was a coach at John Carroll University, where the new Texan general manager Nick Caserio also participated. The two have a strong relationship and maybe Caserio’s presence could help attract Staley to Houston.
But the Eagles want to talk to Staley; they made this known. He is one of their top candidates and, depending on what happens on Saturday, could have a chance to meet soon with the NFC East team who wants to fill the vacancy of head coach he created last week, when fired Doug Pederson.
