The Boston Red Sox have agreed a two-year, $ 14 million deal with Enrique Hernandez, ESPN sources told Jeff Passan on Friday.
Hernandez, originally acquired from the Miami Marlins as part of a seven-player deal in December 2014, has been a key tooth for the Los Angeles Dodgers for the past six years due to his infectious energy, defensive versatility and production against left-handed pitching.
Hernandez, 29, is a .240 / .313 / .425 career player, which makes him a little below the league average, but can provide a premium defense as an intermediate and off-field midfielder. In 2016-2020, Hernandez compiled 5.7 FanGraphs wins over the substitution.
One of his biggest highlights with the Dodgers came in October, when he hit the tiebreaker in Game 7 of the National League Series Championship.
MLB Network was the first to report the deal.
ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez contributed to this report.
