I started this new generation of game consoles with the expectation that I will play most games on the PS5, such as how I played most things on the latest generation PS4. But almost five months later, I spend most of my time on the Xbox Series X and now I feel bad, like I’m ignoring my PS5.

I was lucky enough to catch both new cars at launch. We did not use special connections or industry contacts to obtain them. I just had a lot of tabs open and started the console hunt when the pre-orders went live. At that time, I mainly received the Xbox Series X because I knew I would want to play Hate and a few other Microsoft exclusives. In addition, for the first time in my life, I had saved money buy both new consoles at launch. So why not buy them both if I get the chance?

After both devices arrived in November, I played mostly on PS5. I have Godfall and Miles Morales. I knocked Astro playroom. I downloaded and played PS4 games like that GTA Online and Red Dead Online. I had a good time. But things have changed in recent months.

In December, I received a Xbox Series X Storage Expansion Card, giving me an additional 1 TB of next generation space. This is very useful because it allows me to download and install several state-of-the-art titles. On the PS5, there is still no way to expand SSD storage, limiting how many large games there are Call of Duty you can install immediately. I also started downloading several Xbox 360 and Xbox One games I owned and found that they played great on the new car. Game Pass has started to add more games to my growing list of things to play. I also started to take advantage of the ability to jump between Xbox One, PC and Xbox Series X, with some games that allow me to play anywhere without the necessary save transfer.

E.g, Gears 5. I started playing the game on Xbox One, then I moved to PC, then I moved to Xbox Series X while my GF was playing something on the computer, then I moved to xCloud on my phone when I I wanted to play in my living room by our fireplace during a cold night. And it just worked. I didn’t have to manage backups, installations, or anything else. It was perfect. This happened with Watch Dogs Legion. I started playing on Xbox One. Then I took my new console and started the X series game. All my progress, achievements and saves were waiting for me. No fuss, no extra steps. Meanwhile, on PS5, I managed to get past my saves Assassin’s Creed Valhalla but I didn’t take all my trophies. I also downloaded it by mistake PS4 version the first time I went to install it, which was annoying and a waste of time.

Another important reason why I spent more time on my Xbox is compatibility with previous versions. Sure, almost every PS4 game works on the PS5, but no PS3 or PS2 game works on the new machine. On Xbox, I played Xbox 360 games, Xbox One games, and even an original Xbox game. It also looks great, thanks to the built-in Auto HDR feature in the new Xbox. And recently, older games have improved even more on the Xbox Series X with the FPS Boost feature. It is still limited, but managing to play The new Super Lucky story at 120 fps it was fantastic. Master Chief Collection it also runs at 4K / 120 fps and has become one of my most played games of 2021. It’s also great that I can jump on my PC to continue to progress in my account.

Game Pass is another important reason why my PS5 is starting to gather some dust. I just downloaded Dirt 5 on my Xbox, which was recently added to the Game Pass. I didn’t even turn on the console. I made everything via the easy-to-use Xbox app on my phone. In fact, I could only play it on my phone via xCloud, but I’ll wait to play it on my big stupid 4K TV with 120 fps mode enabled.

I guess as more big Sony games like this appear Horizon Forbidden West or Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, I will find myself spending more time on the PS5. But if you are currently trying to buy a state-of-the-art console, good luck first! Secondly, if you’re not very picky, I think right now an Xbox Series X might be the best bet. Especially if you care to play older games or are willing to pay for the Game Pass.

As I said earlier, I feel bad. My poor PS5 is there, being used for only a few hours RDO or GTA Online. I want to love him. I loved my PS4 and even PSVR headphones. It is one of my favorite consoles of all time. But I can’t stop playing Xbox Series X and I don’t want to. Sorry PS5. I’ll be back when Deathloop iese. Promise!
