The illustration for Sonos and Ikea seems to work on a speaker that works as a wall art

Reviews of Sonos Roam you may have noticed yesterday, but it seems that the portable speaker is not the only thing the company has been working on. Two Ikea FCC deposits and naughty Instagram story just confirms that two new Symfonisk speakers are probably on the way.

Two FCC deposits from Ikea were spotted yesterday by Virgin, but does not reveal much beyond the fact that Ikea is working on two products with wireless capabilities. It was more telling a series of images posted on Ikea’s Instagram story that explained, “It looks like Symfonisk”, which ends with both Sonos and the Ikea logo. It’s not exactly subtle.

As a refresher, Symfonisk refers to two speakers Ikea and Sonos were launched in 2019. Both had dual service as speakers and pieces of furniture that penetrated the entire aesthetics of Ikea. One was a table lamp with a dubious shape that cost $ 180. The other was a more affordable $ 99 speaker that could also serve as a mounted shelf.

The Verge report claims that one of the two FCC records will be a table lamp upgrade and will cost about the same price. However, the second product will not be an update to the shelf speakers. Instead, Verge says he saw an early picture of what appears to be “wall art with a built-in speaker.” However, we do not know much more than the general concept and the fact that it is codenamed “Titan”. Will it be like a digital frame, but with a speaker attached? Maybe it’s a removable speaker that can be hung by different frames? Or is it just a solid piece of wall art that, up close, turns out to be a giant speaker? Who can say.

What we do know is that the previous Symfonisk speakers were clearly meant to integrate into the home decor. These could be purchased as stand-alone or paired stereo devices, and buying them was a low-commitment way to deal with smart speakers. It was a clever fusion of the strengths of both companies and mutually beneficial. Prior to that, Ikea’s foray into the world of smart homes was limited to its light bulbs connected to Tradfri. For Sonos, it was an easy way to attract new customers to its ecosystem at a relatively affordable price. If you bought a pair of Symfonisk library speakers and liked them, you may eventually be tempted to get a Sonos Beam, Playbase, or Arc soundbar. Or if you already have a Sonos soundbar, Symfonisk speakers were a cheaper option for adding rear satellites. It seems to have worked as well Not deficit on Reddit use contemplating that exact home theater setup.

Although it seems strange to have a double wall art as speakers, it is a neat solution in terms of interior design. After all, if you have made the effort to have a beautiful living room layout, the last thing you want is a home theater system that is a mess of threads hard to hide. That being said, though it is beautiful clear that something is wrong, Sonos is playing it bad.

“The partnership is stronger than ever and we are excited about the products we are working on together,” a Sonos spokesman told Gizmodo. “We look forward to sharing more when the time is right.”
