In the mid to late 1980s, Buick somehow convinced hundreds of people to buy – and then never drive – its most expensive model. Can you imagine someone going down to the Buick dealer today and buying a new Enclave Avenir today, then keeping it in the garage that is not driven until 2054?

It seems that every time a Grand National goes on sale, it has less than 2,000 miles on the meter. It is a wild phenomenon that I will never understand.

Anyway, in 1987, when I was just a jumping boy, a couple in Columbus, Ohio, bought a Buick Regal Grand National. They stuck it in their barn and apparently never looked at it again until 2020, when it was sold to a guy from the Sea. During those years of rest, the car’s tires lost air pressure and the family dog jumped on the door and wing non-stop for what appears to have been a decade. It wasn’t started, it wasn’t cleaned, it wasn’t even looked at. Why on earth?

Fortunately, in stages, the superhero protagonist of this story, Larry Kosilla from AMMO NYC. The car was saved from a life of sitting under a film of dust that was attacked by a dog. The new owner seems to be just a temporary savior for the car, buying it to clean, sort and then sell it to someone who will appreciate it. And you know what? This is a commendable role for this person. With no space and time to give GN the attention it needs, at least the car has been saved and will be on its way to an eternal home.

As with every AMMO NYC video, Kosilla does a great job of bringing this car back to its former glory. There is something so incredibly reassuring about watching someone else clean a car. I wonder why I never have the patience to do such a task myself. I have always been perfectly happy to leave my cars dirty, dirty and used on the road. Which is exactly what I would do with this Grand National if it were mine. Drive it until it falls apart, rebuild it, and then drive it again.

As the incomparable Dr. Alan Grant once said, “T. rex doesn’t want to be fed, he wants to hunt. ” The same goes for a top predator like the Buick Grand National. This V6 turbo monster doesn’t want to be around 56 miles on the meter for decades – it wants to spin it and fry some tires. Now, for heaven’s sake, leave it!
