Someone found a weird, unreleased Simpsons game on an old Dreamcast Dev kit

Sreak, a user of the Dreamcast-Talk forums, posted the files on an old, defective hard drive for the Dreamcast kit. Users quickly found themselves in an unreleased, incomplete and strange space Simpson game, which apparently has never been announced or publicly revealed.

Yesterday, Sreak posted that they want to upload some files from an old Dreamcast development kit and he was curious if people wanted to do that. People seem interested, so they uploaded the contents of the developer kit, and others started researching the files. The user Megavolt85 found files and pictures for The Simpsons Bug Squad! Megavolt85 also managed to run it, allowing another user, pcwzrd13, to play the game and create a video of it in action.

What is here is less a game and more a prototype or a technological demonstration that presents a shadow recreation of the cell of the famous Simpsons at home and of some characters from the show, such as Homer.

What’s weird is that Bug Squad! seems to be playing a random bug that doesn’t look very much like Simpson. Resembles Mr. Mosquito, with players exploring the Simpsons as a mistake, which is probably part of a team based on the name of the game.

The game was developed by Red Lemon and this specific demo seems to have been created in October 2000, over 20 years ago. Red Lemon is also the developer behind another unique Dreamcast game, Take the Bullet. Some new files and data from that game were also found on Sreak’s Dreamcast development kit.
