Some Manhattan Starbucks closed on Sunday due to expected protests

MANHATTAN (WABC) – Some Starbucks stores in Manhattan were closed on Sunday due to expected protests.

A Starbucks official said that due to the abundance of caution and the safety of his partner and customers, the decision was made to close the stores.

Eyewitness News stopped at two Starbucks locations and both displayed signs in the window that said they were temporarily closed.

Operations are expected to resume on Monday.

So far no protests or major disruptions have been reported in New York.

Meanwhile, some state capitals are closed, fences are being erected and additional police are in place at US state houses, as authorities prepare for potentially violent demonstrations in the coming days.

Intensified security measures were designed to protect government seats from the kind of violence that took place in the U.S. Chapter on January 6, when a supporter of President Donald Trump stormed the building while Congress certified the Electoral College vote.

The FBI has warned of the potential for armed protests across the nation and all 50 state capitol buildings starting this weekend.

Some messages on social networks targeted demonstrations on Sunday, although it was not clear how many people could appear.
