Some Los Angeles Lakers expected to receive COVID-19 vaccine this week, sources say

Members of the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to receive a vaccine for COVID-19 this week, sources told ESPN.

It was unclear which players or employees intended to receive the vaccine, as HIPAA regulations prevent anyone on the team from commenting on the situation.

The New Orleans Pelicans, the Atlanta Hawks, the Portland Trail Blazers and the Miami Heat have previously admitted to receiving the vaccine.

The NBA did not require vaccination of players or staff, but encouraged them to do so once they are eligible and indicated that it will relax health and safety protocols for those who are vaccinated.

After losing to the Pelicans on Tuesday, Lakers coach Frank Vogel said of the potential for vaccinating team members: “There was talk of trying to get it, but we’re not there yet.”

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin contributed to this report.
