Some iPhone 11 users see increased battery health rates after the iOS 14.5 recalibration process

In the sixth beta of iOS 14.5, Apple introduced a recalibration process for the battery status reporting system on the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max to address inaccurate battery health estimates for some users.

Apple said this process could take several weeks to complete, and now, two weeks after the release of the sixth beta of iOS 14.5, some users are starting to see revised battery health percentages . 9to5Mac writer Benjamin Mayo wrote on Twitter that the maximum capacity of the iPhone 11 Pro battery compared to the time it was new has increased from 86% to 90%, for example, and the technology site 8 Bit compiled the results of other users.

In a support document, Apple said that this error with inaccurate battery status reporting does not reflect an issue with the actual battery status of an iPhone, and the recalibration process should resolve the issue. Symptoms of the error include unexpected battery consumption or, in a small number of cases, reduced peak performance capability, according to Apple.

While the battery status reporting system is recalibrating, users will see an “Important battery message” in Settings> Battery> Battery status, but the maximum displayed capacity percentage will not change during recalibration. When the process is complete, the new percentage will appear and the message will be deleted.

In a small number of cases, the recalibration may not be successful and a new battery service message will appear. If this happens, an Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the battery for free to restore maximum performance and capacity, according to Apple, but the company makes sure there are no security risks for customers.

iOS 14.5 has been in beta testing for over two months and could be released next week. Apple will host a virtual event on Tuesday, April 10, at 10 a.m. Pacific time, with a new iPad Pro and other announcements.
