International Agency for the Integrity of Tennis (ITIA) confirmed today that two Russian tennis players Sofia Dmitrieva and Alija Merdeeva they were banned for sports for life, following an investigation by fixing matches.

Both tennis players, double partners in two of the matches investigated, “they are permanently prohibited from playing or participating in any authorized tennis event or sanctioned by the tennis governing bodies, “the ITIA said in a statement.

Merdeeva, which was ranked 928th as her best singles and 644th in the doubles, was involved in two fixing incidents of matches. In turn, Dmitrieva, which reached 1191 and 939 positions in the WTA singles and doubles rankings, was involved in six match-fixing incidents and, in addition, she was accused of not cooperating in the investigation.

The two were sanctioned for the violation Anti-corruption program for tennis.
