“It’s been a tough week for the news,” Nwodim said. “There are so many things to enter, but first let’s start with Derek Chauvin’s trial.”
Nwodim’s anchor said watching the trial brought back “so many bad feelings” from last summer.
“We all seem to agree that there is no way Derek Chauvin can get away with this,” McKinnon said.
Nwodim and Thompson’s anchors stopped her there.
“Well …” Nwodim and Thompson’s anchors said, scratching their faces.
Nwodim’s anchor added, “Let’s just say I’ve seen this movie before.”
McKinnon’s anchor noted that “historically, the police have escaped in other cases like this.”
“Historically?” Thompson asked anchor.
“It means every time,” Nwodim’s anchor said.
Moffat’s anchor then tried to jump, saying he wanted to choose his words carefully when talking about topics such as race.
“To quote Thomas Jefferson …” he began.
“This is a bad start,” Thompson said.
McKinnon’s anchor said then that the morning show’s team should get a different opinion, so he asked the show’s black man, played by Chris Redd, to join.
The news team then tried to move on to other big stories of the week.
“Sad news this week, unfortunately we lost the royalty yesterday,” McKinnon’s anchor said.
McKinnon’s anchor tried to correct his colleague by saying he was talking about the “prince.”
“Girl, the prince is dead,” Nwodim’s anchor said, referring to the late singer.
“Boyfriend Meghan Markle ??” Thompson asked anchor.
The team then tried to find another story that everyone could agree on, but soon the anchors gave up and said only the opening phrase of the show: “Live … From New York! It’s Saturday night! “
