“SNL” takes Marjorie Taylor Greene, GameStop and Tom Brady

This is how the NBC variety show opened its program on Saturday night, with cast member Kate McKinnon hosting a show that asked what else works in America. The first category was “government.”

“Our first issue is government and I already have my doubts,” McKinnon said.

Greene, played by Cecily Strong, came out and immediately offered McKinnon a weapon.

“So Congresswoman Greene … it’s hard to say those words together,” McKinnon said. “What are some of the theories you believe in?”

Strong’s Greene replied, “How long do you have?”

After hearing some of Greene’s theories, McKinnon asked if she really believed those things and then asked if she was really a US representative.

“Can people bring you Google and be said to be a true member of the US government?” McKinnon asked again.

“It may not be the first thing that comes up, but it is,” Strong’s Greene said.

McKinnon thanked Greene for coming and saying, “So the government isn’t working.” He then switched to the stock market, which had a wild week thanks to Reddit, and brought in GameStop’s majority shareholder, “Derek Boner.”

Boner, played by Pete Davidson, corrected McKinnon by saying: “First of all, the market is pronounced ‘stonk’.

McKinnon then asked Davidson’s Boner if the company’s crazy week reflected the GameStop business.

“Uh, do we sell games?” Davidson’s Boner asked.

McKinnon concluded that the stock market is not working either.

After going through topics like social media and the launch of the Covid-19 vaccine (both don’t work either, according to McKinnon), “SNL” has finally found something that works in America: Tom Brady.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defender, who is returning to the Super Bowl with his new team, appeared on this week’s host, John Krasinski.

“You have to win football games and keep winning football games,” McKinnon said. “You might be the only thing in America that still works … So I think everyone needs to be rooted for you, right?”

“Almost no one,” Krasinski’s Brady replied.

McKinnon said it would be rooted for him, because the country can rely on him and “it’s not like you’re a weird Trump guy or something, isn’t it?”

Krasinski’s Brady immediately thanked McKinnon for having him and leaving the stage.

McKinnon ended the segment by saying that he slowly lost his mind, then gave up signing the show “Live … From New York! It’s Saturday night! ”
