Everything is wild, vague and I’m about here for that
Yu Suzuki will always be a legend for what he managed to achieve with Shenmue series. But a lot of people forget that he was one of the main guys at Sega AM2, who released hits like After the Burner and Space Harrier; which were presented in Shenmue years later as arcade games.
He is now over 60 years old and still seems to have as much passion for the industry as he did in the 1980s: the long road to Shenmue III is proof of that. So, what follows after the aforementioned rebirth? Well, hopefully more Shenmue so we can actually see the story! More than 20 years have passed, after all.
However, as for the immediate future, things could go a little crazy at his studio, Ys Net. He recently caught Famitsu vaguely teasing what was happening in 2021, and his keywords were “shooting / RPG”. Okay … I can follow her.
He later shared his ambitions for 2021, which are “reflection on head-to-head battles” and the phrase “continuation”. So the continuation is likely Shenmue IV, but I wonder if the “shot” portion is Suzuki enjoying the Battle Royale bug.
Either way, there is apparently plans, and Shenmue III did not bankrupt the studio (Suzuki said its performance was “good” earlier this year). I am full of hope for what we will see next.
