The American magazine Newsweek published the list of the best hospitals in the world. For the second consecutive year, Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan is in the top 10 in the rankings. Sheba is not only the highest rated hospital in Israel, but also the number one in the entire Middle East. Prof. Arnon Afek, deputy general manager of Sheba Medical Center and interim director of Sheba General Hospital, remarked that “we are always trying to find something new, something we can add.” In a publication made by the institution on its website, innovation and globalization are highlighted as two of the key axes for obtaining high qualifications in the international ranking.

The list consists of 2,000 hospitals located in 25 countries. The only Latin Americans evaluated were Brazil and Mexico. Hospitals in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada, as well as Israel, also participated. Countries were selected mainly on the basis of life expectancy and level. In addition, the size of the population and the number of hospitals were taken into account. The availability of data access was also key to the process. According to Newsweek, “it stands out for their constant excellence, with distinguished doctors, world-class healthcare and state-of-the-art technology.”

Likewise, in the presentation of the ranking, the magazine specified that the events of 2020 “showed clearly that our lives and those of our loved ones could depend on the type of medical care we have access to”.
