Shawn King talked about her last moments with her late husband Larry King.
“We managed to do FaceTime in the hospital and it was hard for her to speak, but the only message she wanted to make sure I heard was ‘I love you, take care of the boys,'” she told Entertainment Tonight. from the final moments of the famous broadcaster.
Shawn, 61, and Larry shared two sons together, 21-year-old Chance and 20-year-old Cannon. He also survived his 59-year-old eldest son, Larry King, by marrying Annette Kaye.
Larry died Saturday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 87 years old.
Although Larry’s sixth wife, Julia Alexander, told The Post that she died of the coronavirus she contracted in December, Shawn said it was not her real cause of death.
“It was an infection, it was sepsis,” she told reporters. “Well, he was finally ready to leave, I’ll tell you that. You know, he never wanted to go, but his sweet little body was just, he had just been hit so many times with so many things, and once we heard the word COVID, all our hearts sank. But he beat her, you know, he beat her, but he took it, and then the unrelated infection eventually took him, but boy, wasn’t it going to go down easily. ”
Shawn, who was in the middle of divorce proceedings from the legendary CNN host, said he never thought they would complete the split because of their partnership.
“Both Larry and I never completed the divorce,” she said. “In my heart, I did not think it would really happen and it never happened. We have been partners in every way, in business and, well, first in our family and then in business. … You know, family is the most important thing and God. ”
The family made Larry rest this week and paid tribute to him in the most appropriate way possible – wearing his signature accessory.
“Everyone, it was just a family, we were wearing Larry’s suspenders, each of us,” she said. “And he was beautiful, loving … just perfect, just perfect. It was family. There was no showbiz, no, none of that.
“Death is perhaps the great equalizer, I think,” she continued. “You know, when you experiment with people we really love, all the other noises and nonsense that could be around, it just goes away and the family gets closer. And so it happened. You know, it was beautiful. ”
