The minor, who lives in Minnesota and traveled to South Florida with his family, spent most of Sunday in a hospital where he had to undergo surgery for the bite of a shark about four feet high. mother, Kristine Weiskopf.

Speaking to local Miami station WPLG, the mother said she was on a South Beach beach with her son when she noticed that after the child emerged from under water, a patch of skin was missing from one of his shoulders.

“I looked down and there was a gray shark of almost three feet, so I picked it up and carried it to the beach,” said the mother.

After being treated by firefighters and rescuers, the boy was transferred to Jackson Hospital in Miami, where he underwent emergency surgery to close the deep wounds in his damaged shoulder.

The father, Ren Weiskopf, said they are “in shock” but grateful that the boy survived the attack and hopes he will recover, while at the same time expressing his surprise that the beach was still open.

“The beach is still open, and the kids are still playing there, and they are in the same place where my son was just attacked. I don’t know if it’s just for spring break or whatever, but the beach would be closed, said the father.
