One person was killed and several others were injured after a suspect took her to a Canadian library.
A suspect is now in custody in connection with the lone wolf attack on Saturday afternoon in North Vancouver, officials posted on Twitter.
The violence took place in and around the Lynn Valley library branch in the suburbs, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Six people were taken to hospital, emergency workers told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It seems that their conditions are unclear.
A man working at a bank across the street from the library told the media that he witnessed the attacker’s attack after it was possible for him to be shot with rubber bullets by police.
“The police response has been extraordinary,” Justin Prasad said, according to CBC. “I’ve never seen so many cops in an area.”
Rylan Harvey was eating and shopping nearby when he saw the wounded on stretchers.
“I hope the victims are fine,” he told CBC. “I’m very sad that this has happened in our community.”
He called North Vancouver a “quiet and idyllic place,” where violence is rare.
“People generally seem shocked,” Harvey told CBC. “How the hell can this happen in North Van?” I grew up five minutes from here. ”
Police continue to look for witnesses to the stabbed rage.
