FARMINGTON – Several inmates at Davis County Jail have tested positive for COVID-19 as part of an ongoing outbreak, according to Davis County Sheriff’s officials.
Starting with Christmas Day, a total of 40 detainees gave positive results, only one employee being positive and isolated. The first case of imprisonment was reported on December 18, after which the cases steadily increased at the unit.
Of the approximately 375 inmates in prison, 83 live in the same pod as the first man to contract the virus, officials said in a previous statement. About 35 detainees live in the same housing unit as the man and rapid tests showed that 18 more in that unit gave positive results since December 18, and 17 were negative, some of which showed symptoms.
All positive detainees are placed in solitary confinement and all exposed detainees are quarantined to prevent the spread, according to officials.
“We have been steadfast in our efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus throughout our unit, taking a variety of precautions and implementing several procedures to reduce risk and possible exposure,” said Davis County Sheriff Kelly V.
