A mad man has stabbed at least seven people – most apparently older women – in a suspected knife attack in China, according to state media and a report.
The suspect, identified only by his last name, Yang, was arrested after an early morning bloodbath in front of a closed school in Kaiyuan, Liaoning Province, the CCTV state broadcaster reported.
The man began attacking people, including some who appeared to have just come out of a nearby bathroom, CCTV said. Seven people were injured, including a police officer who tried to stop him.
Most of the victims, who were not identified by officials, appeared to be middle-aged or elderly women, a Ms. Liu told the South China Morning Post.
The attacker “appeared to be 50 years old,” added Liu, who runs a nearby music studio.
“[The suspect] he only stabbed strangers with a knife. It was really horrible, “she said.
“She is lucky that the school is closed today. Otherwise there could have been more victims. “
Chinese law restricts the sale and possession of firearms, but mass knife attacks have become an alarming problem.
In June, a school security guard with a knife injured at least 39 people at a kindergarten in the southern region of Guangxi State. The culprit was sentenced to death.
In 2018, a man killed one and injured 12 in a knife attack at a mall in Beijing.
