Serious warning issued to Apple AirPods Max users

The next AirPods 3 from Apple are considered to be much more expensive, but now warnings have been issued for the most expensive AirPods of all.

Everywhere Twitter, Reddit (1,2,3,4) and Apple website forums, owners of Apple’s $ 550 AirPods Max report problems with condensation accumulating in the headset after only a few hours of use. Moreover, this can be caused by an unresolved design flaw.

“So, uhh … My Max AirPods form condensation after long use. They have never been used in any humid environment. Water seeped into the drivers and caused ear detection problems. I carried them inside, sitting at the desk mainly, nothing crazy. Very interesting issue “- source

“I had exactly the same problem, with an easy walk (40 minutes) and then again while watching a movie (1:30). We decided to return them after seeing that water also enters the driver and that the ring turns red … too worrying for me “- source

“I have exactly the same problem. I’m in Bradenton Florida, I work in a doctor’s office and I had AirPods Max on for 2.5 hours. I happen to take the headphones off while cleaning them and I noticed all this condensation inside and the driver. And it’s weird because I don’t move at all. It really scared me. ”- source

“Why do I see condensation in my earphones, as well as in my drivers ????” – source

“So I’ve had AirPods Max for a little less than a week and I’ve noticed that after prolonged use, there’s a decent amount of condensation inside the ear cup. It is quite noticeable when you detach the magnetic ear cushions from the ear cup. ”

It’s getting worse too. Not only has Apple (controversially) decided not to make AirPods Max waterproof, it seems the company’s decision to make aluminum headphones is the cause of the problem. Aluminum stands out, but it is a weak insulator that – as users have pointed out – probably creates the problem of condensation due to heat accumulation due to wearing AirPods Max (also heavy) over time. If this owner’s theory is correct, there is no easy way to fix it. Which may explain why almost all rivals use plastic.

Moreover, although Apple did not publicly comment on the issue (I sent a press release), the response from the company’s technical support suggests that this will hit you in the pocket for now:

“I talked to Apple about coverage and they also said it’s a $ 29 repair in addition to the $ 59 AppleCare purchase. That is 680 USD with taxes where I am, for headphones and coverage. He told me to make sure I wipe them off after each use. And they are like – I can remove moisture from the inside of the cuff area, but not at all in the drivers area. And that worries me. You could return them and wait [the] the second kind. “- source

Given the potential for this condensation problem to impact the longevity of the headphones and cause additional expense for a product that is already ultra-premium, the smart move would be to wait and see how this goes. With AirPods Max currently on sale until March, that shouldn’t be a problem, but it shows the danger of rushing to buy a first-generation product.

Meanwhile, AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 3 are coming soon, while Apple also seems to have something even better going on.
