MADRID – Sergio Ramos will have meniscus surgery on his left knee this weekend, confirmed by ESPN. The white captain made the decision on the recommendation of Real Madrid’s medical services and will be out for at least six weeks.
Ramos was injured earlier in the season and has been in trouble ever since. He could no longer play the Spanish Super Cup match against Athletic Club nor the Copa del Rey match against Alcoyano in which Madrid was eliminated against a Second B team.
Ramos, according to ESPN, always wanted to avoid surgery, but the club’s medical services advised him to stop and recover as soon as possible.
The withdrawal period is estimated at a minimum of six weeks, depending on the recovery periods. Therefore, Ramos would lose the draw against Atalanta and the league matches against Huesca, Getafe, Valencia, Valladolid, Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid, with the doubt that he will be able to reach the matches against Elche and Celta Vigo in time.
The damage comes at the most unexpected moment, as he is immersed in the complete renewal of his contract. ESPN reported a few months ago that the defender’s intention is to renew for Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City being very attentive to Ramos’ future. There is still no decision on his future, but it is clear that the injury does not help clarify doubts about where the Real Madrid captain will play next season.
