Select Walgreens to start administering COVID-19 vaccines :: WRAL.com

Walgreens will begin administering coronavirus vaccines in 300 locations in North Carolina.

More than 31,000 doses of the vaccine will be given to those eligible starting February 12.

Walgreens has been selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide vaccines in 15 states and jurisdictions as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.

The CDC has chosen states and jurisdictions for the program to help increase access to the vaccine in areas served medically and in areas with a high score of social vulnerability, which is the potential negative effect on communities caused by external stress on human health. The CDC will allocate a certain amount of Walgreens vaccines to each location.

“Walgreens was one of the first pharmacies to start administering COVID-19 vaccinations in December to long-term care staff and residents, and we look forward to using our expertise to support the federal government and the CDC in expanding access to these. vaccines ”. John Standley, president of Walgreens, said in a statement.

Once vaccination schedules are available, people need to go to the Walgreens website to schedule them. Walk-ins will not be accepted.
