Get ready to start another Zoom premiere season

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced on Wednesday nominations for the 2021 Golden Globe Awards, officially launching the award season. In a premiere for Globes, the February 28 ceremony will be broadcast from both sides.

The nominations, which honor the best film and television shows and productions in 2020 – the year in which we needed more entertainment than ever – are revealed by previous winners Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson starting at 8:36 a.m. by livestream.

Hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the Golden Globes air on Sunday, February 28th. The globes, which will be broadcast on NBC, are usually held on the first Sunday of the year, but have been pushed back amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. .

This year also marks a premiere for the ceremony, which will be broadcast from two different coasts – rather than in Beverly Hills, California, where it usually takes place. Fey will be hosting the Rainbow Room in New York’s Rockefeller Center, while Poehler will be at the usual Beverly Hilton venue.

The heads in the major categories are big signs of what is to come at the Oscars later – although this year there will be a much bigger gap between the ceremonies. The 2021 Academy Awards, usually held in February, have been postponed until Sunday, April 25, in the hope that theaters will reopen so that more films are eligible. Instead, it changed the rules, making movies exclusively streaming eligible for the first time.

While the format of the Globes show is still unknown, the Oscar ceremony will certainly be a “personal” affair at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, the Academy said in December.

This year’s globes mark the fourth time Fey, 50, and Poehler, 49, have shared hosting duties. The pair previously played hosts at Globes from 2013 to 2015, although this marks the first time that former “SNL” co-stars will do so in a pandemic from opposite parts of the country.

Jane Fonda, 83, will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the highest honor given to an “individual who has had an incredible impact” in the film, during the 78th annual ceremony. Norman Lear, 98, will take home the Carol Burnett Award for his iconic contributions to television history.
