A rare winter storm that threw a foot of snow on Seattle failed to prevent a 90-year-old woman from attending her first appointment for the coronavirus vaccine.
The Seattle Times reports that Fran Goldman walked back and forth six miles to get her injection.
“I make calls everywhere, every morning, every afternoon, and I’m often online in the evenings,” Goldman said.
It finally got a spot for Sunday morning, but a severe winter storm swept through the region on Friday and Saturday, turning the city’s normally rainy streets into a winter scene of snowdrifts.
Goldman wore wool pants and a short-sleeved shirt so the nurse could easily reach his arm. Over it he put on a fleece zip, then a down jacket, then a raincoat.
Then he put on snow boots, took out his sticks, and ventured into the snowy streets.
“It was not easy, it was a challenge,” he told the newspaper.
But Goldman was only 5 minutes late for his appointment.
Her daughter Ruth Goldman, who lives in Buffalo, New York, was not surprised by her mother’s actions.
“We are outsiders,” he said. “We like to be outside. Yesterday I was in Lake Ontario with a wind chill of 6 degrees “.
