On The Hollywood Reporter, the third season of the successful podcast Serial is heading to HBO as a limited series. Host Sarah Koenig and LeBron James will co-produce the project, which is currently in early development. Screenwriter Shola Amoo, who wrote and directed Dear Sundance The last tree, is set to produce executive, direct and create the script for the series that will not yet be titled.
Conformable THR, the show will “follow a young police officer and the man he accuses of beating him as the potential series sheds light on the malfunctioning inner workings of a Central American court and how the system impacts everyone it touches, from police officers to lawyers and citizens accused and victimized by crimes. ”
The podcast, created by This American Life, has become a kind of breeding ground for potential large-scale adaptations of HBO. The popular instant lighting debut season – which followed the complicated case of Adnan Syed and the murder of Hae Min Lee – was originally chosen for an adaptation that was part of a bidding war. HBO ended up producing a four-part documentary The case against Adnan Syed, who was nominated for an Emmy. A branch of Serial, Cute white parents, receives pilot treatment with Now Rae and Adam McKay attached as executive producers.
