Screenshots reveal similar iOS 14 privacy features that come in Android 12

Google is expected to unveil the next generation version of Android, Android 12, in just a few weeks. Before the software debuted, XDA Developers shared some screenshots that give us an idea of what to expect from the new software.

According to XDA Developers, the screenshots come from an “early draft of a document made to summarize the changes in Android 12,” and those using iOS 14 will notice some similarities between Apple’s latest update and Google’s upcoming release, as PCWorld highlights.

Apple in OSiOS 14‌ added a small dot in the status bar to let you know if the microphone or camera is activated, and in Android 12, Google seems to have a similar option. When the camera or microphone is used, there is a green bar at the top of the Android interface.

After an app has accessed your camera or microphone, Android 12 displays a small touch-up point to allow you to see the specifics of the app that used your phone’s hardware.

Google is also adding switches for universal camera and microphone deactivation in the revised privacy interface, which goes a little beyond what Apple offers. With iPhones and iPads, you can turn off app-based camera and microphone access, but not for every app.

The widget interface in Android 12 is similar to the ‌widgets‌ interface in OSiOS 14‌ with a cleaner look and better organization to make it easier to find ‌widgets‌ to use on the home screen.

Apple probably won’t be upset that Google is following in its footsteps to increase privacy controls, as Apple executives have repeatedly said that when it comes to privacy protection, Apple is happy to see competitors copying its business.

Google also intends to adopt another change to Apple’s privacy – Application Tracking Transparency. Recent reports suggest that Google is considering a “less strict” version of the feature, which requires app developers to obtain user permission before tracking them in apps and websites. “We’re always looking for ways to work with developers to increase privacy, while enabling a healthy, ad-supported application ecosystem,” said a Google spokesman.

Screenshots from XDA Developers have not been confirmed, but we should see the new features of the Android 12 operating system later in February.
