Saudi Arabia says it intercepted and destroyed an unspecified “hostile air target” heading to its capital Riyadh on Saturday.

The Saudi-led coalition fighting a war in neighboring Yemen did not provide further information in a statement released on state television. On Saturday morning, there was a loud boom over downtown Riyadh accompanied by a trail of white smoke in the sky.

The government also did not say who may have been behind the attack. In the past, similar interceptions have blocked ballistic missiles fired at the Houthi rebel kingdom in Yemen, where the coalition has waged a five-year war to restore the internationally recognized government.
