Santa starts with the delivery on Christmas Eve to the SLC hospitals

SALT LAKE CITY – After the year I had, even Santa Claus needed a small start to Christmas Eve.

That’s why he visited LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City on Thursday night instead of Friday morning.

He wanted to make sure that health workers received an early gift.

Santa also visited the Children’s Primary Hospital and the University of Utah Hospital on Thursday.

He delivered pizza and snack boxes to health workers who were unable to take their day off.

Emergencies do not pay attention to calendars.

“It was the best way I could learn how to give a little joy to the people who have to work,” he said.

It’s a Christmas Eve tradition that David Lamb has been doing for years.

Lamb dresses up as Santa Claus and provides food for health workers. “You have to spread the goodwill and be happy,” he said. “And I love Christmas.”

Lamb said he remembers how much his mother-in-law worked for two decades at Dixie Regional Medical Center in southern Utah.

“We were going to spend Christmas in St. George’s and we were waiting for open presents to come and she was coming home exhausted because it was work,” Lamb said. “So my wife and I decided that’s what we’re going to do. We wanted to bring them joy and thank them for their work.”

Normally, the Lamb bakes and brings these pastries to hospitals.

However, this year, thanks to that large piece of coal known as COVID-19, he brought them pizza and snack boxes instead.

He knows that nurses and doctors have had a difficult year.

“Our health workers have been under a lot of stress and if we can add something to their lives tonight, a little appreciation for what they do, that makes it good for me,” he said.

In addition, you never know when a trip on a chimney might require a visit to the hospital.

Maybe Santa’s anointing them just in case. But even if he does not visit an emergency room, he knows that the medical workers take care of other patients.

And they won’t be hungry to do it.

“They really appreciate it,” Lamb said. “He appreciates that people remember them.”
