San Juan De Dios Hospital inaugurates the first hyperbolic medicine unit in the province

San Juan De Dios Hospital in Córdoba has increased its services with the launch of a hyperbaric medicine unit together with VMG Salud. This drug consists of a hyperbolic oxygen therapy that involves the supply of oxygen at a higher pressure than usual to increase the amount of oxygen in the blood and thus to improve various pathologies in which its activity has been demonstrated.

According to the hospital’s medical director, Enrique Cantillo, the commitment to this innovative system implies an increase in the center’s range of services “and also the province’s private health landscape, because we are the first, not only to start it, but doing in the hospital environment “. He took the opportunity while making the statements, to clarify that it is a multidisciplinary treatment in which coordination between specialties is crucial to guide patients who have suffered from coronavirus.

The application of hyperbaric treatment is diverse and shows its effectiveness in a wide range of pathologies of 24 specialties, including cardiology, cardiovascular problems, ENT, neurological, trauma and aids for the rapid recovery of musculoskeletal injuries. In fact, one of the first applications this unit will have will be the treatment of patients who have had COVID-19, who will be offered this therapy to improve possible sequelae that could have remained, according to Valentín Martínez, head of VMG Health , which ensures that many hospitals have used these rooms to recover postcovis patients.

The Hyperbaric Medicine Unit of the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Córdoba is equipped with two single-chamber Oxybarica walking cameras, made in Spain, the Oxylafe 90 model for the supply of 100% oxygen and up to three atmospheres of absolute pressure
