San Francisco 49ers sign free agents Wayne Gallman, Arden Key

Attacker Wayne Gallman and defensive end Arden Key visited the 49ers on Tuesday, and reports emerged on Wednesday that both players will join the club.

Gallman’s signing was officially announced by the club. Giants’ fourth-round pick in 2017 will provide some veteran depth on the back field. Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. are the only players on the list with significant ports in the NFL. Gallman in four seasons with New York had 338 transports, 1,444 meters (4.3 YPC) and nine hurried touchdowns.

Key’s signing has not been made official, but NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported the Raiders pick in the third round of 2018 will sign with the club after he was dropped from Las Vegas in mid-April.

The former All-SEC first-team selection saw that once the first five action projects fell during his last college season. He went from the best defensive players in the draft to a late pick on day 2.

His high-profile lead paid off for the Raiders. In three years with the club he posted 3.0 sacks and 26 defender shots in 37 games. The 49ers have been willing for the past few years to take risks for free agents who have not had much success in the NFL. Key will have the chance to compete for a place of rotation in a position where the 49ers desperately need a certain depth of quality.
