After the first week of the release of the Pfizer vaccine in several hospitals in San Antonio, several vaccines are being administered next week, including doses of the new Moderna vaccine, according to data released Friday by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.

Dozens of hospitals, emergency care clinics and HEB pharmacies in Bexar County are set to receive 30,200 doses of Moderna vaccine next week. Vaccines will be reserved for health care workers and other employees.

The news came just as federal regulators gave final approval for a second vaccine. Manufactured by Moderna, the vaccine requires two doses, such as the already approved Pfizer vaccine. The Moderna vaccine was approved by a government advisory group on Thursday in a 20-0 vote.

Nearly 5,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine will also be shipped to Baptist Medical Center, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa – Medical Center, Methodist Hospital and Methodist Children’s Hospital, University Health System – Inpatient, and Wellness 360. Each will receive 975 doses. of that drug. , the data show.

The San Antonio Fire Department will receive 1,600 doses.

Last week, nearly 30,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine were shipped to hospitals and military bases in the San Antonio area. The Greg Abbott government has predicted that more than one million Texans will be vaccinated by the end of 2020.

The Texas Department of Health and Human Services keeps track of where the vaccine was distributed and the number of people vaccinated so far through its online dashboard. Hundreds of similar facilities across the state are receiving transportation, it is shown.

Vaccine distribution and administration data are aggregated from each county by the state, and the scoreboard is updated daily, although delays are possible depending on when the data are reported.

Counties that have received the vaccine so far include El Paso, Ector, Midland, Parmer, Lamb, Lubbock, Terry, Lynn, Garza, Wise, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Parker, Tarrant, Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Wood, Johnson, Ellis , Henderson, Bexar, Harris, Hardin and Nueces.
