Samsung TVs use mini LEDs for lighting

Neo QLED: Samsung TVs use mini LEDs for lighting

As part of the “First Look” in the run-up to CES 2021, Samsung introduced new TVs under the name “Neo QLED”. The new QLED TVs use mini-LED backlighting to allow a complete local dimming with subdivision into much smaller and smaller areas.

Samsung Electronics today unveiled its portfolio of Neo QLED, MICRO LEDs and Lifestyle displays during its first First Look virtual event before CES 2021. There are two top models that offer 4K and 8K resolutions. Information on formats, prices and release dates is not yet known.

With very small LED lights, they are placed behind the pixels on the screen to illuminate the image. According to Samsung, these lights are 40 times smaller than conventional LEDs. An advantage of the miniled is, in addition to the higher contrast and higher brightness, that there is virtually no chance of burn-in, which can happen with OLED TVs over time.

Samsung has also introduced some new features of Neo QLED TVs. The most striking is a “Super Ultrawide GameView” that allows you to expand the image of PC games to an aspect ratio of 32 by 9. The black bars will appear below and above the game screen.

In the next few years, Samsung will begin a journey of Going Green in aligning TV commercial operations through the following long-term sustainability programs:

  • Reducing the carbon footprint and Improving energy efficiency: Samsung will seek to systematically reduce its overall carbon footprint in TV production. The company will also seek to reduce the user’s energy consumption and use more recycled materials on its entire television line.
  • Sustainable packaging design: Based on valuable consumer feedback, Samsung is expanding its award “Eco-packaging” design for all 2021 Lifestyle TVs and most of the Neo QLED 2021 line. This durable solution can lift up to 200,000 tons of corrugated boxes every year.1 By minimizing text and graphics on eco-friendly packaging, oil-based ink from color printing that is traditionally used on TV boxes is eliminated, helping to further reduce waste.
  • Solar cell remote control: In 2021, Samsung TVs will come with a solar-powered remote control that can be recharged by indoor light, outdoor light or USB – a major innovation for the brand. This will help prevent waste from 99 million AAA batteries designed over seven years.2 To build the remote control, Samsung has innovated the manufacturing process that recycles plastics from recyclable bottles – including 24% recycled content.3

Samsung’s 2021 accessibility features – now available for all 2021 QLED and Neo QLED models – bring the latest advances in technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to help more people comfortably enjoy their TV experience. Line 2021 adds new features such as The legend is moving, Zoom sign language and Multi-output audio, giving the deaf, hard of hearing, the visually impaired and the blind the ability to optimize their vision according to their needs and preferences. By 2022, Samsung is committed to expanding its own systems Vocal guide feature – which provides audio guidance for the deaf and visually impaired. And Samsung will continue to develop new AI-based features to increase the accessibility of Samsung TVs in the coming years.

Neo QLED makes a quantum leap in TV display technology

Samsung introduces a new display technology, Neo QLED, la 8K (QN900A) and 4K (QN90A) flagship models. Samsung takes QLED to the next level activated by a new light source, Mini Quantum LED precisely controlled by Quantum matrix technology and The new quantum processor, a powerful image processor optimized for Neo QLED.

Samsung designed Mini Quantum LED to be 1/40 the height of a conventional LED. Instead of using a lens to scatter light and a package to lock the LED in place, the Quantum Mini LED has incredibly thin micro-layers, filled with many other LEDs. Quantum matrix technology allows ultra-fine and precise control of densely packed LEDs, preventing flowering – and allowing viewers to enjoy content as it is meant to be seen. Neo QLED increases the luminance scale to 12 bits by 4096 steps; this helps dark areas to be darker and brighter, resulting in a more accurate and captivating HDR experience. And the Neo QLED benefits from Samsung’s powerful ownership The new quantum processor with improved upscaling capabilities. Using up to 16 different neural network models, each trained in AI upscaling and deep learning technology, the Neo Quantum processor can optimize image quality at 4K and 8K image output, regardless of input quality.

Samsung 2021 Neo QLED 8K presents a new Design Infinity One—An almost frameless screen that offers an even more captivating viewing experience in an elegant design and form factor. And Neo QLED 8K is attachable Slim One Connection box—A new cable management system that can be attached to the back of the TV – allows for easier installation and cleaner aesthetics. 2021 Neo QLED 8K also includes several premium audio features that fill the rooms; Object Tracking Sound (TSO) ProDynamic sound corresponds to the movement of objects on the screen and SpaceFit sound analyzes the physical environment of the installed TV and generates captivating sound specially adapted to your space.
