The future Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 could receive a very important feature: an IP rating of water and dust resistance.
Conformable SamMobile sources, Samsung’s next foldable phone will be the first to offer an IP rating of water and dust resistance. This is a big problem for a phone with a hinge like Samsung, which in the past was prone to malfunctions due to the penetration of debris in it.
Unfortunately, we do not know what the IP rating will be. However, the fact that Samsung is advertising suggests that the Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 should provide some kind of protection against both dust and liquid.
After all, the dust and debris were the collapse of the first Samsung Galaxy Fold. Not only did it lead to the recall of review units, but it also meant that Samsung had to delay the launch of the phone by a few months. The hinge proved to be a key culprit, with Samsung’s folding mechanism, which makes it incredibly easy for dust and debris to enter the phone.
Samsung has done a lot to ensure that it will no longer be a problem in the foldable future and we may be looking at the outcome of that work. The only question is whether the phones will have an IP5X or IP6X rating.
The difference is that IP6X means that a device is completely sealed against dust and other debris, while IP5X will still leave some particles inside – just not enough to interfere with everyday functionality.
Of course, for most people, water resistance will also be a crucial feature. Invariably, we have all had accidents with our phones, and the IP water resistance rating can give us extra peace of mind. Even if the water damage is not covered by the warranty.
This is just another way in which Samsung seems to increase the durability of its foldable phones. Rumor has it that the phone will come with a super powerful Armor Frame which promises to be stronger and lighter than the frame on the Z Fold 2. Pair it with an IP rating and we look at a durable foldable.
Relatively speaking, of course, because Z Fold 3 or Z Flip 3 is unlikely to be what you would really call “robust”.
It is rumored that Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 will be launched in July this year. The Z Fold 3 is also recommended to come with support for the Samsung S Pen and a slightly smaller battery than the Z Fold 2. Leaks and conversations are still inconsistent with the screen size, however, some claim that the external screen will had a similar size to Z Fold 2, and others claim to be significantly smaller.
We don’t know a huge amount about the Z Flip 3, beyond the fact that Samsung would have omitted the number two, so that both folders have the same number on the back. Of course, it will keep the same flap design as the previous Z Flips.
