SINGAPORE – Samsung said on Monday that its next smartphone announcement will take place on January 14, where it expects to launch the latest versions of its flagship Galaxy phones.
The invitations sent by the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world stated that the event will be broadcast on the Samsung website at 10 am ET (23:00 SIN / HK) on Thursday.
The launch is set to take place in the same week as CES 2021, digital only, the biggest tech show of the year, where major companies often present their new products.
Samsung, South Korea’s electronics giant, usually launches its flagship Galaxy devices in February, near or during the Mobile World Congress.
Samsung did not reveal much in its invitation to the January 14 event. However, media reports of previous leaks suggest that three phones could be announced: Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra, which will be successful on the company’s S20 devices.
Last year, the South Korean company said its third-quarter earnings were partly boosted by smartphone sales, including the Galaxy Note 20. But Samsung predicted there would be intense competition in the smartphone and electronics space. in the last quarter of the year, which analysts said was probably due to the Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
Samsung President and head of mobile communications TM TM Roh said in a blog post in December that Samsung will expand its portfolio of foldable smartphones, making these devices “more accessible to all” in 2021. These devices are at an end Samsung’s most expensive family of smartphone products, the Galaxy Z Flip costing nearly $ 1,400.
Roh also teased the “professional camera and video capabilities” in Samsung’s new smartphones and suggested that some of the features available on Galaxy Note devices could be added to other phones.
Shares of Samsung Electronics in South Korea rose nearly 3% in months.
