Although many devices in the US technically have eSIMs, only Apple iPhones and Google’s Pixel series allow users to connect to networks using the digital cards included in their phones. Many of Samsung’s recent flagships also have built-in eSIMs, but without the support of US carriers, the feature remained unused. Fortunately, this is finally changing, as T-Mobile is the first operator to add eSIM support to Samsung devices running on its network, starting with the Galaxy Note20 series.
This change may seem small, but for users who have wanted for a way to make cell exchange connections easier, it is a godsend. This not only allows digital switching between networks, but also provides a path to dual-SIM phones for US owners. The update is aimed at both Note20 and Note20 Ultra on T-Mobile and, although there are no current signs of similar support for the Galaxy S21, it can be assumed that it has not lagged behind.
In addition to activating eSIM, this new software also includes some vague bug fixes and security enhancements. Once your phone is updated, the OneUI settings menu will include an eSIM Card Manager to switch between networks.
