Samaná will receive direct flights from American Airlines for the first time

The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) approved amendment number 3 of the US airline American Airlines operating license to connect the United States to Samaná.

The route that will fly from June 5, 2021 will have a frequency of two flights per week from Charlotte / El Catey – El Catey / Charlotte, which will carry a maximum of 76 passengers per flight in an Embraer aircraft.

“Little by little, the Dominican Republic is regaining its leading position as a tourist destination in the Caribbean; and one way to explain the reactivation of the airline industry is the approval of the new Samaná / Charlotte route, which will be operated by American Airlines and other new routes, ”said Marte Piantini, president of the JAC.

According to the Civil Aviation Board, US carriers Frontier, Spirit and American Airlines requested to expand their air transport licenses with new routes and increase the frequencies on existing routes.

“In detail, Frontier Airlines requested an amendment to its Operating License No. 88 to include the Miami / Punta Cana / Miami route, with a capacity of 186 passengers; with two frequencies per week: Monday and Friday, which will start flying from March 2021, ”they explained in a statement.

While Spirit Airlines also demanded the amendment of its Operating License No. 48 to include the Orlando / Punta Cana / Orlando route, with a seating capacity of 182; with three frequencies per week starting February 4, 2021.

American Airlines, for its part, requested the inclusion of the Philadelphia / Santiago / Philadelphia route in order to comply with its No. 3 Operating License, which will operate three times a week starting on the 2nd opening. The route will offer services with a Boing 737 and Airbus A-320 with a capacity of 172 and 150 seats respectively.

The council is also composed of the Secretary of State for External Relations, the Secretary of Tourism, the Legal Adviser to the Executive Branch, the General Director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC).

Likewise, the executive director of the airport department is part; the Commanding General of the Air Force (FARD); the General Director of the Specialized Corps in Airport Security and Civil Aviation (CESAC); as representatives of the private sector, Nasim Antonio Yapor Alba and Andrés R. Marranzini Grullón and Pablo Lister, current secretary of the JAC.

The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) is the highest civil aviation body and meets every 15 days to dictate measures and legislation for the country’s air traffic as enshrined in Law 491-06 of the Civil Aviation of the Dominican Republic.
