New York Jets defender Sam Darnold has been thrown out as a potential solution to Chicago Bears defender’s problems. But according to recent reports, it may not be as many expected.

According to Pat Leonard from New York Daily News, the connection between Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and Darnold could prove to be an interesting development in the Russell Wilson commercial rumor mill.

Carroll is said to have a “high opinion” of Darnold, and the Seahawks could end up trading for him if he decides to deal with Wilson to say a Bears team is too desperate to run out of quarterback options.

“Keep an eye on Seattle for Darnold,” a source said New York Daily News.

There appear to have been tensions between Wilson and Carroll, leading to trade speculation. Since then, he has warmed up with Bears, a team desperate for a franchise defender, throwing everything they have at the Seahawks trying to land Wilson.

The only thing that could prevent Seattle from pulling the trigger and trading its franchise defender is the lack of a defender in return. Darnold could be the solution, especially since he’s someone Carroll cares about a lot.

“I think he’s very talented, no doubt,” Carroll told reporters about Darnold in December. “It simply came to our notice then. He’s a real defender. He sees things. He plays great games and throws in difficult situations due to his talent. It’s just a matter of time. Sam will be a very big QB. He threw a lot of balls in three years. He had a lot of experience. It will pay off in the long run. ”

We’ll see if this impacts Seattle’s plans to change Wilson, potentially in Chicago, where things could certainly heat up, with the Bears no longer having quarterback options this season.
