Sakurai explains why Rex Xenoblade is not an Ultimate Smash DLC fighter

During the past week Super Smash Bros. last presentation, Sakurai explained how he considered the team to have Xenoblade Chronicles 2The protagonist Rex fights alongside Pyra and Mythra, but it was simply not possible due to the limitations of the game.

Sakurai now explained this in his latest Famitsu column, explaining once again how the idea the team had in mind (of two different fighters simultaneously) was ruled out due to technical barriers. In the end, it was decided that the fighter would turn into two similar but different characters.

Here is the complete translation, courtesy of Ryokutya2089 (via Siliconera):

“When it was decided that we would create a character from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the first thing I thought about was showing and moving Rex and Pyra on the screen at the same time. But a conclusion that it is impossible came at a match speed. I kind of asked the team to inspect it, but it was impossible. ”

“When we talk about 2 people moving as one group, there are Ice Climbers. They look the same and can only do the same things. When I tried Rex + Pyra, it was clear that we could not do an essential task to have them [data] capacity exceeds processing load threshold. ”

“The system of having Rex as the main fighter and Pyra supervising him was also determined to be difficult. The design was so complex that a lot of things had to be done. ”

“Rex should be moved alone. But then I thought it would be better if we could switch between Pyra and Mythra. “

So this is why Rex didn’t make the cut as a DLC fighter. At least he had to appear in the final scene of the new DLC fighter. What do you think about the latest two in one character? Did you hope Rex would be a playable character? Share your thoughts below.
