Provincial MP Sánchez Ramírez, Sadoky Duarte, came to the fore after physically assaulting a National Police officer during an operation.
However, 15 years ago, the legislator was fighting for his life after an incident with members of the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD).
The event took place in February 2005, when Duarte was seriously injured when he was shot in the abdomen while in a park in Cotuí.
According to reports at the time, DNCD agents had been looking for Duarte for days, visiting the deputy’s former residences.
Days later, and in the middle of an anti-drug operation, DNCD meets with the Member at the above-mentioned place, where they confiscated illicit substances and firearms.
It was during this investigation that Duarte was shot, although, according to DNCD, the legislator was the instigator, stating that fired the initial fire that sparked the incident. But it did not hurt the person who received the impact, because the agent was wearing a bulletproof vest.
Drug trafficking
It is precisely the incident that Duarte is currently facing that has its origins because, according to prosecutor Francis Valerio, the legislator tried to protects someone with connections to that scourge.
It is about someone known only as “Facobra”, who was described by Valerio as a recognized criminal, who has an arrest warrant for the Gender Violence Unit and is being investigated by the Public Ministry for the sale and trafficking of drugs.
The prosecutor said that before the attack, Duarte asked the agents present to release the arrested persons, while they were preparing to seize the detainees’ car. In fact, injured deputy agent Disleidy Heredia Figueroa.
