It was the question and concern in everyone’s minds, once former Ohio head coach Urban Meyer accepted the position of head coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Would Meyer take someone from OSU’s current staff to build his efforts in NFL world domination in JAX?
Meyer doesn’t seem to think it’s in his or Ohio State’s interest, but he pulled the trigger on a current staff member, Ryan Stamper. Stamper served as assistant director of athletic development in Columbus, but played for Meyer in Florida as a captain twice, winning national titles in 2006 and 2008.
After a brief stint in football, Stamper was hired in Ohio in 2012, where he has been ever since. He helps lead “Real Life Wednesdays” and other initiatives designed to help the athlete balance football and off-field life holistically. His loss is a very underrated one, but he seems to be the only staff hit by OSU that he will take from Meyers’ incursion into the coach. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN was the first to report the news.
Stamper is originally from Jacksonville, so it’s also an opportunity to come home. It’s hard to blame a guy for this, and we wish him all the best.
