The Chicago Bears are not a franchise known for great or even solid play. So when it is rumored that one of the NFL’s star defenders would consider a transaction to Chicago – even if it probably won’t happen – it’s an interesting thought.
While Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has not formally requested a deal, this has not stopped speculation. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Wilson “would gladly accept” a transaction to the Bears.
“If the Bears had a deal with the Seahawks, Russell Wilson would gladly accept his paperwork for walking in Windy City,” Schefter told the Waddle and Silvy Show.
With general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy in line in 2021, Chicago has been quite active in the defensive market this season. Pace and Nagy are unlikely to bank their future on Mitchell Trubisky or Nick Foles, which is why they were involved in the quarterback discussion.
But with Matthew Stafford and Carson Wentz facing new teams, Bears has no options for the defender. It doesn’t help that they have the 20th overall pick in the NFL draft, which doesn’t put them in a good position to get a top-flight prospect.
Although Chicago is not exactly the most attractive destination, given the uncertain future of Pace and Nagy, they have the attraction of a dominant defense and offensive young players.
“(Wilson) has the Bears on his list of teams he would be willing to go to. I don’t know why this is, “said Schefter. “Obviously he’s not happy with the offensive protection of the Seattle line, he’s not happy with the way some things were done there, but he’s open to going to Chicago.
“I didn’t help him make the list, so I can’t say why the Bears are on him and other teams are not. I just know I am. ”
It doesn’t matter why Wilson has Chicago on his roster, all that matters is that they are one of the four teams on the roster. Now, Peace, make it happen.
